A countertop will give you added luxury as well as space and why not add top shelving for pots and pans instead of relying heavily on cupboards to store them.

Adding more cabinets/cupboards will also give you more storage options and help free your work surfaces from clutter. Don’t over compensate for lack of space however, because you don’t want large areas of space where you have nothing left to store, it will make it look a little too bare.

Once you start thinking about space and storage, you’ll also be able to factor in appliances, because you’ll have the space for more sophisticated kitchen equipment, making cooking, eating and moving around a lot easier. It could be simply a case of adding ceramic hobs to a work surface, or adding ventilation that’s a more attractive option than a ventilation hood. There are all sorts of things to consider so sit down and make a list of how you’d like to make your kitchen somewhere you’d like to spend more time in.
When designing a kitchen never forget the flooring. It’s as important as the fixtures and fittings. Depending on your budget, you can go for tiles, lino or stone, and there’s a lot of choice in terms of textures, colours and patterns out there.
